Under Innovative Teaching-Learning Practices we would like to state that many of the similar initiatives are already being implemented in the department, to provide a better and interactive environment to the students.
Few commonly implemented initiatives are.

1) Model Making Competition

In this the students are provided with orthographic drawing and are required to convert it into a 3-D model using oasis block or waste Epi-Sheets and cardboards.

To develop visualization of Isometric (3D) from Orthographic (2D) Students are provided with sketches of orthographic views with their isometric object. The models were made from EP sheets, Cardboard sheets, Oasis block and Thermacol.

Similarly, to understand the concepts of ‘Section & Development of Solids’ workshop is conducted where; the concept of Sectioning is demonstrated on vegetables by slicing it in various conditions.

Procedure

  • Demonstration of model making by faculty.
  • Initial planning amongst individual team for model building.
  • Final discussion with faculty.
  • Correction/Rectification by the faculty (if required ).
  • Final model checked.

Conclusion

    • It enhances visualization of 3D model.
    • Understanding the concept of planning and sequencing.
    • Build teamwork spirit among students.

    2) Assignments

Group assignments are given to students where a group of 3-4 students have to prepare a model from cardboard using the concept of Development of solids. The problem given to the students are first to be drawn on sketch book, and the same has to be converted into a model.
